Review:
Little Evil is a Netflix film starring Adam Scott and Evangeline Lilly. You may recognise Adam Scott from the US hit series "Parks and Recreation" in which he plays the role of Ben Wyatt. Evangeline Lily will be best known to many for her role Kate in the hit series "Lost". In Little Evil, they play Gary and Samantha, a loving couple. For Gary, this also means taking on the role of stepfather, as Samantha has a son called Lucas (Owen Atlas). Something strange is happening to Lucas... strange, inexplicable things are happening....
It is soon suspected that Lucas is the anti-christ. This film mainly revolves around Gary and his attempts to be a good partner for Samantha and a good stepfather for Lucas. In doing so, he has to deal with the strong bond between mother and son and misunderstanding from those around him, among other things. Fortunately, he has help from "Al" and is not completely alone.
It is a comedy with some (occult) horror elements. To me, it mainly reminds me of "Problem Child" which revolves around an orphan boy who is adopted and terrorises his surroundings with "pranks". This cult hit of the 1990s is unlikely to be familiar to young readers. But those who do know the film will have particularly remembered the red-headed annoying kid. The similarities with this film are many.
The cast plays pleasantly and smoothly and the film has a nice pace, only the imposed sentiment in this film didn't need to be for me. It excels in superficial humour with a black edge. A lovely light-hearted film that will most likely not touch you or stay with you. But one that is easy to watch and good for a smile. I therefore rate Little Evil with *** on a scale of *****.
