My Life 2.0 Interview

Recently I was interviewed by My Life 2.0, A platform focused on living as well as possible with an illness or disability. In this interview, I share my personal experiences of living within my limitations – something that for me hasn't proven to be a restriction, but rather a process of learning to listen to my body and needs. The conversation is honest, sometimes confronting, but above all hopeful and focused on what *is* possible.

Summer in the Algarve

In previous blogs, including "On to the 35" and "2020 | What a year", I wrote about wanting to hibernate or even emigrate. The reason: my health. As it happens, I feel much better in a dry and warm climate. Humidity in particular affects my pain and rheumatic complaints, but it also suppresses my immune system.

On to the 35

And then it's already May. A month dedicated (pun intended) to Lyme disease awareness worldwide.

In this blog, I am going to share what Lyme disease entails, what to look out for, reveal my interview with the Lyme Society and look ahead to my 36th year of life.

Edge Of The Forest

Today, I am sharing the short film below with you.

To my mind, the atmosphere of my grandfather Rien Poortvliet and Will Huygen's gnome books is perfectly reproduced!

Sunglasses won

Alas... After several wonderful months together, Annemiek and I have decided to part ways. Based on love and mutual respect, the conclusion is that we are too different to make a relationship work and we part as friends.

Holidays and "the sunglasses"

A lot has been happening again in recent weeks. The world is on alert because of all the flare-ups around the COVID-19 virus, there was an explosion of aluminium nitrate in Beirut, and young people in the Netherlands are being called to account for non-compliance with corona measures. I hope everyone is and stays safe and healthy. In this blog, I want to talk about the family holiday in Spain, the ongoing discussion around my sunglasses and the reunion with Annemiek.

COVID-19 | The Coronavirus

With the current crisis in the world regarding the coronavirus, there has been a lot of fear and panic in our society. Before going deeper into the measures and their consequences, let me share with you my own situation and opinion on this crisis.

As a chronic Lyme disease patient, I belong to the high-risk group of frail and elderly people. Although my health is stable and thus I feel I have Lyme disease under control, I also realise its vulnerability.

Double Three | Towards the 34th year of life

Today is the day... The double three: 33. Gosh, how old does that sound! As a teenager, I had thought that at 33 my life would be very different from what it is now, never thinking about getting sick. But I also thought then that Ajax would start winning the Champions League more often after '94/'95. Something that for years proved to be an impossible task. But how close we came to that final recently....

Summer 2018 | A summer of extremes

It has been a bit quiet with my blog for a while. In the interview with the Leidsch Dagblad I had already indicated that I would come up with a new blog soon. Due to family circumstances, this only had some delays, but before I elaborate on that, here's what....
